Fon Meh Buh II Takes the Throne as Esu Fondom’s New Traditional Leader

In a momentous occasion, Fon Meh Buh II, known as Fidelis Nfuia, has officially assumed his role as the traditional ruler of the Esu Fondom. This significant event follows the successful completion of traditional rites performed by the kingmakers and the formal recognition by local administrative authorities.

The ceremonial installation took place on Monday, December 16, 2025, under the auspices of key administrative figures from Wum and Zhoa. Among them were Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) Abdoulahi and Divisional Officer (DO) Garba Oumaru of Fungom Subdivision. Their presence marked the state’s formal endorsement of the new Fon.
A Legacy of Leadership

Fon Meh Buh II hails from a deeply rooted royal lineage, with his family boasting a remarkable history of leadership. His ascendancy is particularly noteworthy, as he is the latest in a line of traditional rulers encompassing his great-grandfather, grandfather, and father, making him the distinct custodian of three generations of Fons. Adhering to established traditions, his enthronement followed proper procedures, including the respected rotational succession and consultations with the kingmakers and custodians of Esu heritage.
Educational and Leadership Credentials
An accomplished scholar, the new Fon is an alumnus of various esteemed institutions, including GS Esu, GHS Wum, GBHS Deido, and the University of Yaoundé II, Soa, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Law along with a Maîtrise in Political Science. Described as calm, disciplined, and approachable, many in the Esu community view him as well-suited to lead during this pivotal time.

Emphasizing Peace and Unity
In his inaugural address, Fon Meh Buh II invited attendees to observe a moment of silence in memory of his predecessor, honoring their service and dedication to the Esu Fondom. He extended a heartfelt appeal for peace, unity, and collective effort among all Esu people, whether at home or abroad.
The new Fon reaffirmed his commitment to an inclusive reign focused on reconciliation, pledging his loyalty to the local administrative bodies. He underscored his intention to collaborate with the government for the benefit of peace and development, while also assuring citizens of his determination to safeguard the ancestral lands of Esu—an obligation he considers sacred.
A Gathering of Dignitaries

The installation ceremony attracted a host of dignitaries, including the Fon of Maga from Nigeria and various traditional leaders and prominent figures from across the Menchum Division. Their presence highlighted the significance of the event and reinforced the spirit of regional solidarity.
A Forward-Looking Vision
As observers reflect on the early indications of Fon Meh Buh II’s leadership, there is a consensus of optimism surrounding his focus on continuity, unity, and respect for established institutions.

It’s essential to remember the circumstances that underline this transition; the throne had remained unoccupied for nearly four years following the tragic assassination of Fon Kum Achuo Kaw Zih Albert II and his wife, Queen Bibiana Bong, on March 9, 2022. With the new Fon at the helm, the Esu Fondom stands poised for renewal and growth.
