PIC Strengthening Good Governance in Cameroon: Workshop for Community Volunteers

"This work is meant for people with honesty and integrity. If you allow yourself to be compromised, you will have missed the opportunity to contribute to building a New Cameroon that meets everyone’s expectations."

These powerful statements were made by Public Independent Conciliator Mr. Tamfu Simon Fai during the opening speech of a three-day capacity-strengthening workshop for 110 community-based volunteers. The workshop, aimed at supporting the campaign to promote good governance in regional and local authorities, is currently taking place at the Auditorium of the Public Independent Conciliator and will run from August 20-22, 2025.

Mr. Tamfu emphasized that this workshop marks an important step in a bold and inclusive campaign. "This workshop marks your official involvement in a campaign to promote transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in regional and local authorities. Over the next three months, from August through October 2025, our collective efforts will span the entire North West Region, reaching deep into municipalities and communities where governance must be felt, understood, and trusted."

The workshop aims to empower these community-based volunteers to become frontline ambassadors of the recently launched good governance campaign. The group of 110 volunteers includes 69 Public Independent Conciliator-based assistants, 23 SEEPD field agents, and 18 safety nets volunteers, all carefully selected to participate in this crucial initiative. This workshop is not merely a training session; it is a call to action to improve our communities.

Their primary role is to gather accurate information from the councils they monitor.
"Their role is to obtain the right information from the councils and relay it to us. As residents in these municipalities, they can gather information directly from the source, enabling us to produce accurate reports about the councils," Mr. Tamfu stated.

He further described the volunteers as "our monitors, our ambassadors in the communities, ensuring that the councils exercise good governance." Their commitment and diligence will play a vital role in fostering transparency and accountability in local governance throughout the North West Region.
