Suspicion Grows Over Bishops' Visit to Cameroon Presidency Ahead of Election

As Cameroon approaches the October 12 presidential election, concerns have been raised regarding a recent visit by Roman Catholic Bishops to the Presidency. This visit comes at a time when various groups are showing their support for long-serving President Paul Biya's candidacy.
In response to the mounting suspicion, the clergy has firmly denied any partisan intentions.

Archbishop Andrew Nkea, President of the National Episcopal Conference, emphasized their commitment to collaborating with the government to maintain peace before, during, and after the election. 

He stated that Canon Law prohibits them from endorsing any political party or candidate, reinforcing the church's mission of justice and reconciliation.

“Our message is clear: the church remains non-partisan and dedicated to serving all people, following the teachings of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace,” said Archbishop Nkea.
