University of Buea Pro-Chancellor Prof. Ako Edward Oben Passes Away

In a sad development, the University of Buea's Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Ako Edward Oben, has died at the age of 74. Reports indicate he passed away yesterday afternoon at the Yaounde Referral Hospital.
Prof. Ako Oben was a distinguished Professor of American and Commonwealth Literatures and had a remarkable academic career spanning 43 years. He earned his PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of Illinois in 1982.

Serving as Pro-Chancellor since 2017, Prof. Ako Oben previously held the position of Rector at the University of Maroua from 2008 to 2017. His extensive career also included roles as Technical Adviser at the Presidency of the Republic and Vice Rector of Research and Cooperation at the University of Yaounde I.

In addition to his academic achievements, Prof. Ako Oben was the Chief of Ossing Village in the Manyu Division and actively contributed to the Manyu Elements Cultural Association.
